PE and Sport Premium
Understanding the PE and Sport Premium
What is the PE and Sport Premium? The PE and Sport Premium is a government grant provided to primary schools in England to enhance the quality of physical education (PE), sport, and physical activity. The aim is to ensure that all children have access to high-quality PE and opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities.
How is the Funding Used? Schools must use the PE and Sport Premium to make additional and sustainable improvements to their PE and sport provision. This means that the funding should be used to develop or add to the PE and sport activities that the school already offers and to build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
Key Areas of Focus:
-
Increasing Staff Confidence and Skills:
- Providing professional development, mentoring, and training for teachers to improve their ability to teach PE and sport effectively.
- Engaging external coaches to upskill staff and provide specialist instruction.
-

- Promoting PE and sport across the school to support whole-school improvement.
- Organizing events and activities that highlight the importance of physical activity and encourage participation.
-
Broadening the Range of Sports and Activities:

-
Increasing Participation in Competitive Sport:
- Encouraging pupils to take part in competitive sports, both within the school and against other schools.
- Organizing inter-house competitions and entering local school sports competitions.
