Snacks and Water Bottles

Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle labelled with their name. In Year 2 children are provided with a fruit/vegetable snack for morning break, however if your child wishes to bring in an alternative snack it must be one of the following items:

·      Toast

·      Fruit

·      Plain biscuit

Plantation Primary is a nut-free school so please ensure that snacks and items in lunch boxes do not contain nuts.

Plantation Planners

Please ensure your child brings his/her planner to and from school every day.

They will need it to record reading and to access usernames and passwords for educational websites.

An adult in our team will check planners to see if your child has recorded at least four reading entries throughout the week and for a parent/carer signature.

If you write a message in your child's planner, please remind them to show it to one of the team of adults.

Homework

Reading

Children are expected to complete at least four reading entries per week. Parents/carers are required to sign each entry.

- Children who are still on the Read Write Inc. Phonics Programme will receive one ebook and one book bag book per week, which will correspond with the sound learned in school. Ebooks can be accessed by following the link below. Personalised logins to Oxford Owl can be found in your child's planner.

- Children who are off the Read Write Inc. Phonics Programme will receive one book bag book per week. This book will be allocated to your child depending on its difficulty level. Children who are off the RWI Programme should now be able to read their home reader with growing independence but please continue to listen to your child read and as them to discuss what they have read. There are recommended comprehension questions in your child's planner.

- Reading for pleasure books can be taken from the class library as frequently as your child wishes. This book will not be based on reading ability and you may therefore find that this book is too easy/difficult for your child. Please support your child's book selection as this is an important part of encouraging reading for pleasure.

Spelling

Children who are off the Read Write Inc. Phonics Programme will  have access to the Read Write Inc. Spelling Programme on the Oxford Owl website. Through this platform he/she will be able to complete activities linked to the Year 2 English Curriculum. Please follow the link to Oxford Owl and select Read Write Inc.
