Snacks and Water Bottles
Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle labelled with their name. Also, if your child wishes to have a snack during break times, it must be one of the following items:
· Toast
· Fruit
· Plain biscuit
Plantation Planners
Please ensure your child brings their planner to and from school every day.
They will need it to record reading, to record accelerated reader quiz scores and to access usernames and passwords for educational websites.
An adult in our team will check planners every Friday. We will be looking to see if your child has recorded at least four reading entries throughout the week and for a parent/carer signature.
If you write a message in your child's planner, please remind them to show it to one of the class team of adults.
Homework
Reading expectations at home:
At Plantation Primary, we understand the importance of reading at home. We recommend that your child reads at least 4 times a week for a minimum of 10 minutes per session. Your support with reading and homework is always appreciated.
Accelerated Reading
The children will continue to use a reading scheme called 'Accelerated Reading'. This scheme will identify a 'range of scores' for your child and recommend suitable books based on that range. You may think that the books being recommended to your child are 'easy', but this scheme has been designed to quiz your child on their understanding of the content of the book, not the fluency of their reading. Once your child completes their book, they need to bring the book into school and complete the quiz on an iPad in school. They will receive a % score and the scheme will then recommend a new book for them to read. In addition to this, children can access e-books via MyOn. Login details can be found in the front of your child’s planner.

Times Tables
Every child has been given a username and password to access Times Tables Rock Stars. This is a brilliant resource to help practise times tables facts and the children can track their own progress as well as teachers. The login details can be found at the front of your child's planner.

Spellings
New spellings will be given out every Monday and children will learn them during the week. We will have a special focus on learning rules. Your child will have access to Oxford Owl spelling online resources. Please see their reading journal for this.
Timetable and PE sessions
Please see the attached copy of our general class timetable at the end of this page.
PE Days:
Outdoor – Thursday
Indoor - Friday
On days where your child has a PE lesson, they should attend school in their kit for the full day. The correct PE kit MUST be worn. If the person leading the PE lesson deems that your child’s kit is not appropriate, they will be asked to sit out and may miss some or all of the session.
PE kit is:
Plain white t-shirt or polo shirt
Plain black shorts
Black tracksuit top and bottoms, black leggings may also be worn
Trainers or pumps
Other sports kits, such as football strips, are not appropriate and must not be worn.
Watches must be removed for PE. Long hair must be tied back.
Parents/carers will be notified via the School Planner should they not be in kit regularly (twice in succession).
