Pupil Premium Grant
Pupil Premium Overview
The Pupil Premium is a grant provided by the government to support disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England. The primary aim is to improve educational outcomes for these pupils, helping them achieve their full potential.
Eligibility and Allocation
Pupil Premium funding is allocated based on the number of pupils who:
- Are currently eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible at any point in the last six years (known as Ever 6 FSM).
- Have been looked after by a local authority or have left care through adoption or other formal arrangements.
Purpose and Use
Schools receive this funding to implement evidence-based strategies that enhance the educational attainment of disadvantaged pupils. This can include:
- High-quality teaching and professional development.
- Targeted academic support, such as one-to-one or small group tuition.
- Initiatives to address non-academic barriers to learning, such as attendance, behaviour, and social and emotional support.
Free School Meals
Pupils eligible for free school meals are a key focus of the Pupil Premium. By ensuring these pupils receive additional support, schools aim to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.
