Water Bottles/Snack Information
A healthy snack (fruit) will be offered to your child each day. If your child wishes to bring in their own snack for break times, it must be one of the following items:
- Toast
- Fruit
- Plain biscuit
In addition to this, all children should bring in a water bottle every day, containing water only, not juice. Please ensure your child’s water bottle is labelled with their name.
Plantation Planners
Please ensure your child brings their planner to and from school every day.
School planners/journals should always be used to record any reading that takes place inside and outside of school and they will be collected in every Monday and Tuesday to be checked and signed. All children should be reading on a regular basis (at least 4 times per week) at home.
Planners will also contain weekly spellings and important usernames and passwords to access educational websites at home.
If you write a message in your child’s planner, please remind them to show it to one of the class team of adults.
Homework
Reading Books
Your child will be provided with a Read Write Inc reading book every Monday, in addition to their weekly online reading. This book will be matched to your child’s reading ability and we would like your child to read the story as well as practising the green and red words. We would also encourage you to complete the comprehension questions in the book as this will help with your child’s understanding of the text.
Library Books
Children will also be provided with a library book to promote reading for enjoyment. I am extremely passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, therefore your child will be able to choose a library book from our reading area, which can be changed on Tuesdays only. Your child is welcome to keep their library book for longer than a week if they prefer to. Please be advised that these books are not necessarily matched to your child’s reading level, since the idea is to allow your child to choose their own book; promoting reading for pleasure. Therefore, if a book is too easy, allow your child to share it with you and then swap it for another book. If it is just right or even a little challenging, please assist them when needed.
When reading with your child you could:
- Get them to tell you what is happening in the story.
- Ask them questions about the story.
- Talk about the characters.
- Make a prediction about what could happen next.
- Ask them to retell you the key parts of the story.
Spellings
Each week your child will be given a list of spellings to practice at home. These will be words that the children will have learnt in class and we would like your child to continue practising reading and spellings these words at home.
Timetable and PE sessions
PE lessons will take place every Monday and Wednesday.
On days where your child has a PE lesson, they should attend school in their kit for the full day. The correct PE kit MUST be worn. If the person leading the PE lesson deems that your child’s kit is not appropriate, they will be asked to sit out and may miss all or some of the lesson.
A PE kit is:
- Plain white t-shirt or polo shirt.
- Plain black shorts.
- Black tracksuit top and bottoms. (Black leggings may also be worn).
- Trainers or pumps.
Other sports kits, such as football strips, are not appropriate and must not be worn. Watches and jewellery must be removed for PE and long hair must be tied back.
Parents Carers will be notified via the School Planner should they not be in kit regularly (twice in succession).
Please see the attached copy of our general timetable at the end of this page.
