Grammar and spelling in Mr Fillis' class

Date: 11th Oct 2016 @ 9:46pm

We've been practising our spelling rule. If verbs have a short vowel sound, followed by just one final consonant, we have to double the consonant before adding the suffix. A suffix is a sound added to the end of a word. In this case, we've been adding /ed/ or /ing/. Spelling test on Friday should be a piece of cake after this. 😉

We also learnt about adverbs and how these words describe verbs and say how the action happened. We wrote our own sentences using adverbs. Our book to start us off was called Slowly Said The Sloth by Eric Carle. Here are some examples from the children's books. Can you identify the adverbs?

The howler monkey climbed carefully up the tree.

The anaconda was slithering silently through the dark forest.

So now we know all of the word classes for year two. These are nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. What a busy first half term we've had! Next half term we will learn the different sentence types.
