At Plantation Primary School & Nursery we are pleased that you are interested in the School Direct Route into teacher training.

St Mary & St Thomas’ Teaching School Alliance (lead school for St Helens TSA) has developed an exciting School Direct programme aimed at recruiting and training high quality aspiring primary school teachers.

Working in partnership with Liverpool Hope University we provide our trainees with a strong school-centred postgraduate route into teaching but with the added benefit of studying for a Masters level for a Postgraduate Certificate as well.

St Mary & St Thomas’ Teaching School Alliance will be recruiting 30 students to train in September 2017; application is via UCAS which opens on October 31st 2016.

Trainees on our School Direct programme will be allocated a school in our Alliance, all of which are good or outstanding. The majority of time will be spent in a ‘home’ school with additional teaching in an ‘away’ school in the Alliance. Plantation Primary School & Nursery is one of the School Direct Partnership schools.

The taught element of our School Direct programme will be delivered by outstanding trainers from our teaching School partnership – Headteachers, Advanced Skills Teachers, experienced consultants and class teachers. The teaching at Masters Level will be delivered by Liverpool Hope.

This is a fabulous route into teaching with us equipping our trainees with the experience and skills needed to become outstanding teachers.

The qualifications you need to be considered for a place on the programme is a 2:1 degree, Maths/English and Science - Grade C+ GCSE or equivalent.

You need at least two weeks previous work experience in a school setting – we may be able to offer this at our school.

You need to apply directly through UCAS and the course code is 13N - St Mary and St Thomas CE Alliance.

Any places would be offered on a conditional basis. It is expected that before starting the course in September you would have passed the QTS tests, completed a satisfactory medical and DBS check.

If you would like further information then please don't hesitate in contacting: Lisa Bradshaw, Director of the St Helens TSA and National Maths Hub NW3, 01744 678010 or Michelle Slingsby (Strategic Lead) at St Mary and St Thomas CE Primary Alliance, 01744 678010.
