Premier League School Champions 2014-2015

Everton and Liverpool claim Schools Tournament honours for Merseyside. All Saints Catholic High School and Plantation Primary celebrate success at the Etihad Stadium.

In the Under-11 category, Plantation Primary ended Corpus Christi’s two-year winning streak in the Under-11 competition for Fulham by taking the title with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace’s Woodcote Primary.

Ryan Stratulis’s header set the Reds on the way before Everton supporting Max Dean put the final beyond doubt with a smart left-footed strike.

“It’s an amazing feeling, I can’t believe that we are the best school in England,” said Max, who made sure the blue of Everton was close to his heart by wearing a Toffees away shirt underneath his Liverpool one for the tournament.

“It was unbelievable to score in the final. We broke off them, I pushed out wide and it was a long ball. I controlled it and I took it inside and hit it with my left foot into the bottom corner. I couldn’t describe what it was like when the final hooter went, it was that amazing.”

“This is going to stay with them for the rest of their lives”
Matt Houghton

It was a significant moment for Plantation, who took part in the Schools Tournament at Anfield last year but did not make it out of the group stage. They won their group by one point from Southampton’s Merdon Junior School and came from behind to overcome Corpus Christi 3-1 in the semis.

“They played some fantastic football in the final,” said Plantation Primary Year 6 teacher Matt Houghton. “They started off a bit nervous because they wanted to get the goal. Once the goal came they started to play their football which we have seen all year with them. They have been amazing.

“This is going to stay with them for the rest of their lives. They will meet up when they are 30-years-old and they’ll say ‘remember when we went to the Etihad and won that Premier League trophy’. That’s priceless. That’s why I came into this job, to see them like this.

“This tournament is fantastic. The organisation is superb. It’s been an absolute credit to the Premier League. May it continue for many years.”
