Miss Booth

Hello and welcome to Upper 7’s class page.

I am thrilled to be joining Upper 7 in their last year at Plantation. It is wonderful to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too!

We have a tough, yet exciting year ahead and I hope you will join me in helping make sure it is a successful one too!

On our class page you will find some useful information and our class blogs, which will give you up-to-date action from ‘Upper 7’.

Please do not hesitate to come and see me or contact me if you don’t find the information you are looking for.

Important Information for this term:

Monday - Indoor PE (Plantation PE Kit and trainers)

Thursday - Swimming Kit, Reading Journal, Homework Book and Spelling Test.

Friday - New spellings and Homework will be given to Children.

Reading Journals

We will be using Accelerated Reading again this year. The children will be given a book for their level and will complete a short quiz on that book.  By using Accelerated Reading I can track the children’s progress, but please remember to read as much as you can with your child at home too. To Improve comprehension skills, we will also be using Reading Journals. The journals will provide opportunities for your child to respond to questions about the book they are reading, for parents/carers to comment on their child's reading and for myself to monitor your child's reading comprehesion skills.

Class Read:  The Unforgotten Coat - Frank Cottrell-Boyce

Homework

Homework will be given out every Friday (Spellings, Times Tables and Reading Journals) and should be returned by the following Thursday.

PE

This year we will have two PE Lessons, one indoor lesson on a Monday and one outdoor lesson on a Thursday (Swimming for the first half term). We are heading into the winter months now so I would encourage children to bring warm clothing for their outdoor PE lesson and suitable footwear.

Creative Curriculum Topic

Our first topic this year is all about the Second World War in Europe and why the Battle of Britain was such a significant turning point in British History. We will create our own timeline and study the key events such as the outbreak of the war, the Battle of Britain, the heroic rescue at Dunkirk, the Blitz, the D-Day landings, the liberation of the concentration camps and the celebrations of VE Day. Finally we will research about the inspiring stories and achievements of significant people such as Anne Frank and Winston Churchill.
