-Lower School 6 2017 - 2018

Miss Robinson

Welcome to Lower 6’s class page.

The children have settled in fantastically and we’re all excited for a great year ahead! Check our class page regularly for blog updates and photos of some of the fun and exciting things we get up to in class. I will also post any important dates, events and general reminders in our blog.

Our Creative Curriculum topic for Autumn term is: ‘Famous for more than five minutes’.

We will be learning all about inspirational people from the past and present. We have started by learning about some of the most influential monarchs, researching how life was different under their rule hundreds of years ago. After that, we will be looking at famous people in the world of medicine.

In Science we are learning about Super Scientists and carrying out lots of practical investigations and experiments. We will also be learning about Growth and Survival and what it takes to stay healthy.

Please read on below for some key information for this year:

Reading- Children choose their own reading book to take home with their reading record. Please comment in the reading record book when you have listened to your child read. I would like everyone to change their reading book at least once a week. When children change their reading book in class they will often read with an adult before taking the book home to enjoy. I will hear all of the children read each week as part of Guided Reading lessons.

Children are also free to select a class library book to take home. Please be advised that their choice of library book is entirely up to them and so it may not match their book band level.

Spellings- New spelling lists will be given out every Friday. We will then complete some work on the rule during the following week in school, before a class test on Friday. Please discuss the rule at home and use the sheet to practise. The spelling sheets can be returned to me each week along with other homework. If the sheets are returned before the Friday test, I will mark them and send them home so your child can continue to practise with you at home.

Homework- Reading and Spelling homework will be sent weekly. Any additional Maths and English homework will be sent home on a Friday and needs to be returned by the following Friday. There will be a big emphasis on learning times tables in Maths and English homework will often be some grammar, punctuation or reading comprehension work.

P.E- We have two P.E sessions each week, one indoor and one outdoor. Children will need their indoor kit (shorts, t-shirt and pumps) and their outdoor kit (a tracksuit and trainers) in school for these lessons. These kits must remain in school at all times, but will be sent home at the end of every half term.

Water bottles- It would be brilliant if every child has a named, water bottle in school to enable them to drink as much as possible during the school day, especially when the weather is warm and after PE lessons.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. You can catch me on the door at home time or put a message in your child’s home contact book (orange book). Please remind your child to pass the book to me in the morning so your message is not missed.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Robinson
