Mr Fillis

 Mr Fillis' Class Page.

I would like to say a very warm welcome to my class page. We have had a wonderful start to the term in Year Two. My class has a small, select amount of pupils where we have a big focus on the basics of English and Maths. I am so impressed with how hard everyone is working and we have adopted Peter Rabbit's motto to help us when work gets tricky... A good rabbit never gives up.

READING: In our class, we have a guided reading session everyday where we all help each other. At the moment, we are learning to recognise these key words on sight... I, go, no, the, was, wanted, he, she, you, my, said. We are following the adventures of Biff, Chip and Floppy as well as our Comics for Phonics books. Your children will choose a new home reading book every Monday. Please focus on spotting some of these key words, as well as sounding out other words.

REMINDERS: Our outdoor PE is on a Tuesday, so please make sure that your child has a tracksuit and trainers for this day. Our class will join another Year Two class for this session so that the children get to mix with a wider circle of their peers.  We also have indoor PE on Thursday, so they will need PE kits and pumps/ trainers for this. Please send in a water bottle each day and we would be most grateful for each child to bring in a box of tissues so that we can use these throughout the year, espcially as the colder weather approaches.

LETTERS AND SOUNDS: I will hand out the new reading/ spelling rule each FRIDAY. I then teach that rule the next week, this lets you know in advance what the focus for the upcoming week will be. I will undertake short, informal tests with the phonics group. Children from other year two classes come to our class each day for a short session and then have an additional full hour on a Thursday afternoon. This is to help them to secure their application of taught phonics into reading/ writing skills.

HOMEWORK: Your child will be given English and Maths homework each Friday, alongside their weekly spellings. Please bring it back on or before the following Friday, when the next set of homework will be given out. Maths homework will link to what we have been learning about in class, giving you a chance to consolidate that learning/give extra support to your child in that area. English homework will be word skills work or comprehension to support your child in answering questions about what they have read. I may also send home extra, personalised homework to support any areas that I notice your child may need help with.

If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesistate to catch me at the classroom door when school finishes, or continue to use Home Reader to communicate with me.

Between myself in class and with your support from home, I look forward to seeing just how far we can push your children on and enable them to reach their full potential this year. It should be an exciting and rewarding learning journey for all.

Kind Regards

Mr Fillis
