Black History Month Project - Upper 8

Date: 4th Nov 2016 @ 6:25pm

Ruby Bridges

To celebrate Black History Month we have been learning about Ruby Bridges; a key figure in the American Black Civil Rights Movement. She was the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960. A true inspiration to us all; Ruby displayed examples of resilience, ambition and bravery.

We created a eight-foot newspaper article, reporting Ruby's first day at William Frantz Elementary School. As you can see from our pictures, she had to be escorted to and from school by US Marshals as crowds of angry white protestors hurled abuse at her from the school gates.
