05.12.17 - Knowsley Basketball competition

Date: 5th Dec 2017 @ 12:13pm

Today we took seven of our Year 6 children to the Knowsley Basketball championships and we had a great time! Seven schools in total took part in the competition and the standard of basketball was extremely high! After a couple of nervy opening games, the children began to play as a team and take on board the tactics that were being given by Mr Sanders and Mr Noblett.  As a result, we won our first five matches, but so did Halewood CoE. This meant that the last match would essentially be the final, with the winner taking the trophy and representing Knowsley at the Merseyside finals. The game started high pace, with both teams having chances to score. However, it was Halewood CoE who scored two quick baskets to develop a 4-0 lead. Nevertheless, we didn't give up and we continued to play well, finally scring a basket, then another until with a couple of minutes to go we were in the lead 6-4. With moments to go before the final whistle, Halewood CoE scored a basket, meaning that it was all square at the final whistle. It was agreed that we would continue to play 3 minutes intervals and check the score at the end of each, so we began again and both teams had plenty of chances to win it. With the ref beginning the ten second count down, Halewood CoE scored a basket. It was heartbreaking for the children, but Mr Sanders and Mr Noblett were incredibly proud of them, especially as they had not trained once together before the competition. Well done guys, a great effort!
